Drunk, gun-toting felon found asleep at the wheel, police say

An allegedly intoxicated felon was found slumped over the steering wheel and possessing an illegal handgun when he was contacted by Lacey Police on Thu., Aug.12, just past midnight.

Carlos Reyna Reyes, 36, of Lacey, was passed out over the wheel of the white Cadillac Escalade registered to him when contacted by Lacey police. The vehicle was still running and had struck an unoccupied gold 1999 Saturn SL2, according to an eyewitness’ call.

The Lacey police officer who responded to the eyewitness’ call smelled “the strong odor of intoxicating beverage” on Reyes.  Reyes had a difficult time awaking up, according to the police report.

The officer’s report noted that Reyes had a firearm near Reyes’ right hand.

Reyes failed a field sobriety test with a 0.199 breathalyzer sample. While failing his “walk and turn” portion of the sobriety test, Reyes told police that he was flat footed and that “I’ve been drinking you guys.”

Through the DUI interview at the Lacey Police Station, Reyes denied that he had been driving, that he did not hit another vehicle and that he was sleeping in his vehicle because his wife “went crazy on him,” according to the police report.

On the Draeger, Reyes blew a 0.194 sample, which is more than double the legal limit of 0.08 in the state of Washington.

The firearm itself was confirmed stolen out of Tacoma and a single .380 round of ammunition was located in Reyes’ right front pocket during the search by intake deputies

Reyes was booked into the Thurston County jail for felony possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm due to Reyes’ convicted-felon status, also a felony, and driving under the influence.
