Estuarium invites K to 8th-grade students for one-week Estuary Explorers Summer Camp

Give your child a chance to explore Puget Sound and uncover natural wonders in the estuary. Kids will learn about the flora and fauna living in Puget Sound while training themselves as future stewards of the environment.

The camp involves hands-on education with the Estuarium’s trained staff and volunteers. Participants will visit local parks and beaches to learn about native plants and animals and how to protect them in their habitats.

Other camp activities include plant and animal ID, touch tank exploration, ecosystem connections, marine dissections, arts/STEM activities, and hands-on experiments.

The schedule for the camp is set per grade level:

Sea Stars, K-2nd Grade on June 24-28, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Locations: June 24, 25, 27 at the Puget Sound Estuarium, June 26 at Tolmie State Park, and June 28 at Squaxin Park

  • Discover what an estuary is and the unique traits of Puget Sound plants and animals.
  • Engage in hands-on games and art/STEM activities both indoors at the Estuarium and out in the field.

Salmon, 3-5th Grade on July 15-19, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Locations: July 15, 16, 18 at the Puget Sound Estuarium, July 17 at Tolmie State Park, and July 19 at Squaxin Park

  • Dive into the geography and physical sciences of Puget Sound.
  • Learn to navigate through different ecosystems and understand their interconnectedness.
  • Explore microscopic worlds and local waterways using scientific tools.

Orca, 6-8th Grade on August 12-16, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.:

Locations: August 12, 13, 15 at the Puget Sound Estuarium, August 14 at Tolmie State Park, and August 16 at Squaxin Park

  • Investigate the natural world and learn scientific methods to analyze ecosystems.
  • Pilot state-of-the-art Remote Operated Vehicles to explore undersea communities.
  • Conduct hands-on experiments and research studies on Pacific Dogfish anatomy.
  • Gain insights into environmental and marine sciences pathways.

The tickets are priced at $225 each for non-members and $200 each for members. Limited low-income options are also available. Check the event page to learn more and register.
