“Extremely dangerous” Ensign Road homeless camp resident arrested for felony assault

Video allegedly shows attack on a neighboring resident

Olympia Police arrested a man who lives in his recreational vehicle on Ensign Road who was accused by two neighbors of assaulting a third neighbor there on May 7.

Jesse Heal, 27, had allegedly approached two men from behind on the sidewalk of the 3200 block of Ensign Rd at 11 a.m., punching and elbowing one of the men in the head, knocking him to the ground. Heal allegedly started kicking the victim in the head and stomped on his ankle.

Both men wished to remain anonymous to Olympia Police for fear of retaliation, claiming that Heal was “extremely dangerous.”

Video evidence was provided of Heal attacking one of the men and knocking him unconscious.

Olympia Police approached Heal at his recreation vehicle parked behind his car at the Ensign Road encampment. Heal told police that they “needed a warrant” and to “vacate the premises” but officers refused to comply. Multiple officers surrounded the recreation vehicle, interviewed the victim, and gained enough probable cause to arrest Heal for felony assault.

While Olympia Police waited to obtain a search warrant from a judge to enter Heal’s premise to arrest him, officers advised Heal that K9 Kaiser was on scene, and that Heal could be bit if he did not exit. Heal exited his recreational vehicle, eliminating the need for a search warrant, and was taken into handcuffs. Heal's recorded statement is attached below this story.

Heal was transported to Thurston County Jail for felony assault and obstruction. Heal also had several warrants out for his arrest, including a DOC warrant with an original charge of assault.

Not that they asked to remain anonymous because they feared retaliation but then the police offer their statements with their names nice job

the truth is that jesse Heal doesnt deserve to be in jail for this incident. based on the eye witness accounts of this event and the video that blatently shows the alledged victim throwing at least 3 punches before Jesse elbows the victim knocking him out. Jesse Heal acted purely in self defense. plus the victim was/is on active probation and would have been facing his 3rd strick if he had gotten charged with any sort of assault. the victim started the whole incident and should honestly be the one behind bars.
