Local butcher shop to hold one-for-one match anniversary event

A butcher shop in Lacey will celebrate its first year of operations by matching every single purchase of a meat pack to help combat holiday food insecurity.

Gibson’s Custom Meats will hold a one-for-one match event, “Pay It Forward,” on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., where buyers can buy community essential packs and donate to people in need.

In an email to The JOLT, Gibson’s head butcher Chris Calloway called on the community to join the event.

"We are incredibly humbled by how our customers have embraced the Pay It Forward program over the past year. As we head into the holidays, the need in our area is greater than ever," said Calloway in the email.

"We invite everyone in the community to come down to Gibson's Custom Meats this Sunday to help us pack the donation board. With our 1-for-1 match, every single contribution will go twice as far in putting high-quality, fresh meals on the tables of neighbors who need it most."

Calloway said last year’s event produced donations of over 2,200 packs for families in need in the South Puget Sound area — an average of six families receiving a package every single day for the past 12 months.

This year, each community essential pack is worth $19, and contains 5 pounds of staple proteins: 2 pounds of ground beef, 2 pounds of boneless chicken breast and 1 pound of pork breakfast sausage.

The donation packs were formerly priced at $16.99 each, but due to rising wholesale meat costs, the shop adjusted the price to $19.

“This adjustment ensures the business can continue providing the same high-quality, fresh protein to vulnerable community members without compromising nutritional value,” said Calloway in the email.

Gibson's Custom Meats is located at 7912 Martin Way E in Lacey.
