A man was taken into custody after authorities said he tried to withdraw thousands of dollars from a credit union using a false identity.

According to Tumwater Police Department report, staff at Twinstar Credit Union, 5735 Littlerock Road SW, reported on Wednesday, July 16, a man inside the branch matched an alert sent earlier about fraudulent withdrawals at its Centralia branch.

When responding officers arrived, they identified the suspect as Mark Lee Blevin, 59, of Puyallup. He who initially provided a fake name and identification before admitting his true identity during an investigation into the incident.

Police say Blevin presented a counterfeit Colorado driver’s license and attempted to cash a cashier’s check for $9,000.

The report states items, such as a fake Oregon driver’s license, bank cards and a Social Security card under another name, along with cash, gift cards and receipts, were found in his possession.

Investigators said Blevin claimed another man had given him the false identification and planned the scheme.

Mark (the suspect) advised he had been driven to this location in a gray Hyundai Elantra by someone named James. Mark said that James had planned this event, and had given Mark the false ID,” a responding officer stated in the report.

Blevin was arrested without incident and booked into the Thurston County Corrections Facility on suspicion of identity theft, forgery and criminal conspiracy.
