A man allegedly high on crystal methamphetamine was reported to Olympia police who responded and discovered him passed out in his running car on Tue., June 29 at 3:37 a.m.
Police received a call about a Honda Accord stopped in the middle of Cooper Point Rd SW at the intersection of Black Lake Blvd SW, partly in the center turn lane and partly in the oncoming lane. The engine was running, exhaust fumes from its tailpipe, with no brake lights illuminated. The responding officer observed that the Honda’s gear shifter was in drive, and the driver, Martin Nicolich, 53, was asleep at the wheel.
The officer reported that he reached through the open window and turned the ignition “off.” The vehicle began slowly rolling back down the hill, toward the patrol car.
OPD shouted for Nicolich to wake up and apply the brake. Nicolich’s vehicle rolled backward to rest against the patrol car’s front push bars. Neither vehicle was damaged during the incident, according to the police report.
The officer's report said that Nicolich "chattered with heavily slurred speech," fidgeted with items, and his eyes were watery, bloodshot. Nicolich said that he did not drink, but that he had a few hits earlier of methamphetamine and some cannabis.
After conducting a field sobriety test which he performed poorly on, Nicolich was transported to the Olympia Jail and fell asleep in the holding cell.
Nicolich had two vials of blood drawn by Capital Medical Center and was booked into Olympia Jail for loss of physical control of a vehicle.
