New Intercity Transit general manager to be selected by October

The new general manager for Intercity Transit (IT) could likely be selected by the end of October, according to an update from the General Manager Selection Committee to the Intercity Transit Authority (ITA) during its public meeting Wednesday, March 5.

Justin Belk, a citizen representative of the ITA and a member of the selection committee, gave the update on behalf of the committee which also includes Tumwater City Mayor Debbie Sullivan, Lacey City Councilmember Robin Vazquez, and citizen representative Don Melnick.

Belk told the ITA that the committee met on March 27 to discuss the process for selecting the new general manager.

He said that around June, the committee would conduct outreach using employee surveys and listening sessions to identify what is important for the position.

The committee hopes to present its findings to the ITA in August before advertising the role and presenting a shortlist of applicants by the first week of October.

“If it all goes according to plan, we’ll hopefully be offering something to someone by the end of October,” Belk said. “That would allow, depending on where this person is, a start date for the end of the year or the beginning of next year.”

Belk told ITA that they have a lot of work to do but that he was positive with the knowledge and experience of not only the IT staff working on the recruitment but also of the other members on the selection committee.
