Olympia is looking for applicants for its new round of traffic box art.
Starting in 2015, the city holds a public voting competition where artists living in and around Olympia could submit a picture of their artwork that will be converted into a vinyl wrap that will be used on one of the traffic boxes around the city.
“The wraps not only beautify our City but greatly reduce the amount of graffiti on the boxes and the maintenance hours required to clean them,” the city explained on its website.
According to Olympia, there are now currently 66 traffic box wraps throughout Olympia.
Interested community members who live in or within 30 miles of Olympia may apply online until 11:45 p.m., January 9, next year.
Public voting will begin in February, with the top ten voted artists having their work displayed in a traffic box and receiving an honorarium of $500 and their names recognized on the city website.

Does it have to be ART work, or can one submit a color digital photograph?

I just read the requirements for submissions. One of them is that the artist MUST provide proof of a City of Olympia Business License.
This is stupid. I don't have a business in Olympia. Nor do I feel the need to : create one, go through all the hoops to acquire a license for a business I don't have, and only then I can submit artwork?
SOunds to this cynic like this is merely a ploy by the City of Olympia to shake one down for money, and in return, one's artwork is displayed.
