An Olympia man was arrested after allegedly punching a fireman as he was “aggressively” demanding a free ride home.
Olympia police and the Olympia firefighters responded to multiple calls involving Brian Christopher Phillips, 28, between the night of Feb. 25 and the morning of Feb. 26, according to a police report.
One firefighter said in his witness statement that Phillips called 911 three times, first after being kicked out of the Providence St. Peter Hospital and demanding to be brought to Capital Medical Center over a supposed medical concern.
The firefighter noted, however, that Phillips was “unable to show [any] injuries or symptoms.”
“Brian was left at the scene with no known medical need and him stating he just needs a ride home,” the firefighter wrote.
During his second call, the statement read, Phillips approached a firefighter in a “threatening manner… and stated that he needed a ride home but had no money.”
The firefighter said they left the scene again after informing Phillips that they don’t give out rides.
The suspect’s third call was from a 7-Eleven along Martin Way, according to the police report.
Firefighters told police that Phillips became aggressive with them as they were trying to leave and refused to let them enter their vehicle.
One firefighter wrote that Phillips was “verbally aggressive from the start” and came up to them saying, “What are you going to do about it, motherf*cker?”
A lieutenant said he was walking away from Phillips when the suspect struck him in the left shoulder.
The firemen did not engage with the suspect and requested police response.
Phillips was booked at the Thurston County Jail for third-degree assault.
