Olympia woman allegedly assaults attending cop, medic

An Olympia woman has been accused of assaulting personnel from the city’s fire and police departments as they were trying to give her a medical evaluation.

Misty Lou O’Laughlin, 39, was arrested on June 2 after multiple people reported her walking in the middle of State Avenue NE at Eastside Street NE carrying a pack of hard lemonade.

An officer noted that O’Laughlin “flipped” him off and smiled when she saw him arriving at the scene.

Police said the suspect “immediately started talking about random things that did not make much sense.”

“She stated she was a ‘missing child’ from 1981 and that she was angry her adopted mother ‘stole’ her,” an officer wrote. “She also talked about being shot, stabbed, and killed several times. She pointed to her stomach, which was exposed, and complained that she did not have any marks or injuries from being shot or stabbed.”

Police then requested assistance from the Crisis Response Unit. As they waited, an officer reported that O’Laughlin said she wanted to get shot by law enforcement and added that she did not want to hurt anyone.

The suspect then began talking about needing insulin due to a medical issue, prompting police to offer her a medical evaluation by the Olympia Fire Department, to which she agreed “gladly.”

Fire personnel arrived to evaluate O’Laughlin. Moments later, a commotion broke out, according to an officer.

The officer said he saw the fire personnel take a step backward as O’Laughlin swung her arms at him while stating, "I am going to kill you!"

The officer said he inserted himself between the two individuals and ordered O’Laughlin to sit down.

“Misty refused and I immediately called for a second unit,” the officer wrote. “Misty then swung at me with her right arm and took an aggressive stance with her fist clenched.”

The officer said he grabbed the suspect’s arm and handcuffed her after using a wrist twist-lock technique.

A firefighter told police that he was speaking with the suspect, whom he described as cooperative when she stood up and came at him with both hands.

When he grabbed O’Laughlin’s arms, the personnel said, the suspect bit his left "pointer finger," as stated in the police report, at which point he stepped back.

Two crisis responders said they saw O’Laughlin push the fire personnel, swing at his face, and bite him.

O’Laughlin was booked into the Thurston County Jail for third-degree assault.

"Pointer finger". How sad, that the author possibly never heard the word "index" finger.

    Hey, FirstOtter!

Not to put too sharp a point on it, our reporter (not really an author, here) clearly understands her fingers. She accurately quoted the police report.

But thanks for being a regular reader and commenter in The JOLT.
