Olympia woman arrested after assaulting boyfriend, police officers

An Olympia woman was booked for multiple charges last Monday, after she allegedly assaulted police officers who were arresting her on suspicion of fourth-degree assault.

Tumwater police said Natalie Wyre, 29, called 911 at about 8 p.m. on Mon., Oct. 11 to report fighting with her boyfriend and father. She then locked herself inside the bathroom.

The boyfriend told police that Wyre woke him up, scratched the back of his neck as she ripped his shirt off, and yelled at him to leave. He said the suspect was drinking and watching TV while he was asleep.

A responding police officer described the boyfriend’s scratches as “distinctly” red, about four inches long, and as wide as fingernails.

Wyre admitted to police that she ripped her boyfriend’s shirt off him, giving authorities probable cause to arrest her for fourth-degree assault.

The boyfriend told police that he asked Wyre’s father to come over because the suspect had gotten “out of control.”

Wyre’s boyfriend and father “pleaded” with law enforcement to find a different option when they were informed that she would be arrested due to the scratches on the boyfriend’s neck, according to the police report.

The suspect’s father told police that Wyre had depression and was taking medication for it. The boyfriend added that police had been called to their home before, but no arrests or reports were made.

When police explained that Wyre needed to be arrested due to the circumstances, the boyfriend told law enforcement that he would not allow them to take pictures of the scratches on his neck nor provide a statement.

The boyfriend also told police that he was “not a victim” and stated that there were no firearms in their home.

Meanwhile, another responding police officer who spoke with Wyre said the suspect’s story was “hard to follow due to her intoxication level.”

Wyre told police that she grabbed her boyfriend’s shirt after he called her a “crazy bitch” and said that the shirt ripped because he walked away from her while she was holding on to it.

The suspect also admitted that she previously got in trouble for choking her boyfriend, adding that she had to appear in court soon for a mental-health-related case.

Police then told Wyre that she was under arrest. They had to control one of her arms because she tensed up and her behavior was “escalating immediately,” according to the report.

After she was escorted out the front door, Wyre stopped walking and laid down in the grass and “began escalating her behavior further,” police said, noting that the suspect “was tensing her entire body, flailing, and becoming violent.”

Police say Wyre squeezed the hand and gripped the gun belt of a police officer, and refused to heed law enforcement’s commands to stop or to let go.

A police officer reported striking Wyre in the shoulder area because she was refusing to let go of another officer’s gun belt. Authorities also said they had to apply a spit hood and restraint device on Wyre due to her behavior.

Wyre’s father and boyfriend repeatedly asked police to allow them to speak to her but were not allowed to do so.

The suspect was booked at the Thurston County Jail for third-degree felony assault, fourth-degree assault, and third-degree malicious mischief.
