Providence Swedish implements mandatory face mask policy amid rising respiratory virus cases

Posted

As of Tuesday, December 5, Providence Swedish hospitals and clinics across South Puget Sound will enforce a mandatory face mask policy for all patients, visitors, and caregivers in areas dedicated to patient care.

With a surge in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza, and COVID-19 infection rates, Providence Swedish, in alignment with other healthcare facilities in the Puget Sound area, is prioritizing the safety and well-being of everyone within its premises.

The mandatory mask requirement extends to high-risk care settings, including emergency departments and areas catering to immune-compromised patients undergoing treatments such as cancer therapies.

Individuals must wear face masks in hospital patient rooms and hallways, patient exam rooms, registration/front desk and check-in areas, emergency departments and waiting rooms, oncology/cancer waiting rooms, and all clinic locations, including urgent care clinics.

Self-symptom screening stations will continue to be stationed at patient and visitor entrances.

These stations are equipped with hand sanitizer dispensers and provide courtesy masks for individuals who need them.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends universal masking in healthcare settings when transmission levels are high for common respiratory viruses.

Providence Swedish's proactive measures aim to reduce the risk of virus spread and safeguard the health of patients, caregivers, and visitors.
