SURELY GOODNESS

Share an outstanding caregiver story

Posted

Do you know an Outstanding Caregiver who serves from their mind and heart? Caregivers work behind the scenes and the Senior Action Network (SAN) is looking for a number of local stories to recognize OUTSTANDING CAREGIVERS and highlight their contributions. Please tell a story that you know, both to inspire others and to give well-deserved recognition. Nominations are being accepted now and until September 15th, 2023. The categories are for the following types of caregivers: Community, family, adult family home, facility, agency, and private/neighbor/individual.

According to organizer Lynessa Stone, you may nominate a volunteer or paid provider, a family member, or a neighbor. You may nominate staff or volunteers in-home or in a facility such as an Assisted Living, Nursing Home, Adult Family Home, or Adult Day Center. It’s all good!

“This is my favorite event of the year,” said Lynessa Stone, co-chair of the event. “Not only does it highlight the wonderful stories of so many selfless caregivers out in our community, but it also gives a face to some of the seniors and families who rely on these services and are so thankful for the care that they receive.  It’s really heartwarming to see the special connection between the caregivers and their clients or care recipients at an event like this.”

In past years, typically 80-100 nominations have been received and 15 awardees given a plaque and monetary award.

The Senior Action Network (SAN) will accept nominations of individuals in Thurston, Mason, and Lewis Counties who exemplify what it means to be an Outstanding Caregiver. This person can be a person of any age, eight or eighty, anyone who helps others! Please take time to nominate a person who has made a difference in your life or in the life of someone you know! Online or hard copy nominations are welcome.

Senior Action Network will honor these Outstanding Caregivers at their 23rd Annual Caregiver Recognition Dinner & Auction on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Tickets for the awards dinner and auction-fundraiser go on sale in mid-September. Stay tuned for more information on the SAN website.

What is SAN?

The Senior Action Network (SAN) is a group of almost 100 members (including The JOLT News Organization) throughout Thurston, Mason, and Lewis counties. They are dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors. They serve as a forum, business development, and networking venue.

They also provide outreach speakers and other community education outreach to help enhance healthy, independent, and secure lives for seniors in our community. Their speakers cover education and community awareness on topics such as: long-term care options, legal matters, healthy living, organizing, and downsizing.

SAN annually raises and distributes thousands of dollars to other charitable senior organizations and others who need assistance. Emergency funds are also part of the mix.

SAN currently has a volunteer board of 16 members, led by President Marilyn Jamison. Board members represent businesses as diverse as Intercity Transit, The Firs, Humana, Senior Services for South Sound, and Allwest Moving/Storage.

Shirley Stirling, of Lacey, writes about good things people in Thurston County are doing. If you’d like to nominate someone to be profiled, contact her at shirley@theJOLTnews.com or comment below.
