Suspect shot by deputy after pointing weapon, released with no bail

The male suspect who was shot by a Thurston County Sheriff’s deputy after allegedly pointing a weapon at authorities has been released from prison.

The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, the agency leading the investigation into the incident, said the suspect was released from the Thurston County Jail on July 6 without the requirement of posting bail.

The suspect was ordered to be evaluated by the Washington State Designated Crisis Responders, who determined that he was not an immediate risk to himself or to others, and that there was no legal reason to detain him.

“The mental health evaluator then said the individual wasn’t a risk… while I have a lot of questions and concerns, all we can do is wait for the investigation to run its course,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said on social media.

 Shooting

On the 4th of July, Thurston County deputies were dispatched to a domestic violence report on the 7500 block of 14th Avenue NE in Lacey. The caller told dispatchers that police needed to respond before he kills someone, then hung up.

Two deputies arrived at the scene and contacted a man and a woman there. The man pulled out a weapon, causing a deputy to shoot him.

The suspect was brought to the Providence St. Peter Hospital for minor injuries, and later booked on two counts of second-degree assault.

The Grays Harbor Sheriff said it was interviewing concerned parties, reviewing patrol car and body camera footage, processing evidence, and compiling statements from witnesses and officers. Findings will be presented to the Thurston County Prosecutor.

The suspect pulled out a weapon in the presence of a law enforcement officer? Seriously? Some might argue he should've been shot dead for stupidity.

The shooter should undergo remedial firearms training until accuracy improves; he only "winged" 'em.
