Thurston County deputy cleared for shooting suspect

A Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) patrol deputy is “criminally cleared after his involvement in a shooting incident,” according to the TCSO news release.

Last July 4th, TCSO deputies responded to a 911 call of domestic violence, which led to a confrontation with the suspect who aimed a gun at them.

TCSO reported the incident and disclosed body camera footage for the independent investigation.

Region 3 Critical Incident Investigation Team (CIT), under the leadership of the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, conducted an independent review of the incident.

Subsequently, the Region 3 CIT’s report was submitted to the Grays Harbor Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to assess Deputy Graves' decision to shoot during the incident.

Last September 22, Prosecutor Norma Tillotson officially informed TCSO that Deputy Graves' actions in the line of duty were deemed justifiable and acted upon in good faith.

“The prosecutor found sufficient evidence that Deputy Graves acted appropriately after having a firearm pointed at him,” TCSO further stated.

Following the prosecutor’s decision, Deputy Graves has returned to full duty.

The suspect in the case is now facing charges filed by the Thurston County Processing Attorney’s Office for assault on a law enforcement officer.
