Thurston County invites applicants for advisory board, commission, committee positions

Posted

The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) has announced an open invitation to the public interested in civic engagement to apply for positions on various citizen advisory boards, commissions, and committees.

With twenty-five vacancies available, the county aims to incorporate diverse perspectives representing different geographic interests, areas of expertise, and professional associations.

Among the positions the county is actively recruiting are the Board of Equalization (BOE) and the Civil Service Commission.

The BOE, functioning as a quasi-judicial body independent of the Thurston County Assessor's Office, plays a crucial role in impartially adjudicating taxpayer appeals regarding property valuations and other determinations made by the Assessor.

Those interested in learning more about the BOE can visit their official website.

The Civil Service Commission, on the other hand, focuses on making decisions regarding proposed revisions to Civil Service rules, classifications, and employment standards, in addition to hearing appeals related to eligibility list removals.

Commissioners are required to commit to attending regularly scheduled open public meetings.

More detailed information about the Civil Service Commission can be found in this online document.

Tye Menser, Chair of the Commission, expressed gratitude towards volunteers who actively participate and serve the community, saying, “We rely on boards, commissions, and committees to help inform the business of the county. We are grateful to those who volunteer their time to actively participate and serve our community.”

Individuals interested in applying or seeking further information about Thurston County's boards, commissions, and committees are encouraged to visit the official county website.

For inquiries, Amy Davis, Clerk of the Board, can be contacted at 360-786-5447 or via email.
