A man who tapped on a stranger’s car window with a knife was contacted by police and then arrested for driving under the influence at Percival Landing in downtown Olympia, just after midnight last night.

Christopher Tomczewski, 22, of Olympia, allegedly approached the reporting party’s truck, tapped on the window with a knife, and motioned for the truck window to be rolled down. The reporting party shook his head “no,” and Tomczewski allegedly went to his own vehicle parked nearby.

While the reporting party was being interviewed by Olympia police, Tomczewski attempted to exit the parking lot in what Olympia police report said was “a high rate of speed” over multiple parking curbs in the Percival Landing parking lot.

Police reported that Tomczewski smelled heavily of alcoholic beverages, spoke very fast and his "sentences were not making any sense." They reported that Tomczewski agreed to provide a preliminary breath test but was unable to follow instructions to do so.

Police applied for a blood search warrant and received it, then transferred Tomczewski to Capitol Medical Center where blood samples were taken at 4:38 a.m.

Tomczewski was booked into the Olympia Jail for driving under the influence. The arresting officer reported that he was planning to follow up to determine if an additional charge of harassment should be added to the case.
