An Olympia man was charged with two felonies after he allegedly broke into his ex-wife’s house and physically assaulted her.
A Feb. 17 document from the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney indicated that the suspect was charged with first-degree burglary and assault in violation of a no-contact order.
According to Olympia police, the 32-year-old suspect was arrested on Feb. 15 after a reporting party told dispatchers that he saw the suspect enter the ex-wife’s home and push her down.
The ex-wife told police that the suspect came over to her house uninvited and broke a window to unlock the door when she refused to let him enter.
Officers noted that the ex-wife had bloodshot eyes and a fresh cut on her right thigh and left foot, but she denied any physical altercation between her and the suspect.
The reporting party, a friend of the ex-wife, told police that the two of them were watching television in the living room when he heard a loud noise and the kitchen door open.
He said the ex-wife went into the kitchen and he heard yelling between her and a man.
The reporting party said he heard the ex-wife scream, prompting him to follow her into the kitchen, at which point he saw a man grab her in the neck area and slam her to the ground.
The man, later identified as the suspect, saw the reporting party and said something to the effect of, “Who the hell are you?” and “Are you having relations with my ex-wife?”
Officers went back to the ex-wife and informed her of the reporting party’s retelling of events, but “she kept saying she never called the police and she wasn’t weak.”
As an officer was leaving the scene, another friend of the ex-wife arrived. The friend said he received a phone call from her, telling him that her ex-husband broke a window to her home, and she needed help as she was bleeding.
Police called the suspect, who claimed that he had been at a restaurant with his mother and denied having any contact with his ex-wife. Authorities also contacted the suspect’s mother, whose responses were inconsistent with her son’s account.
The suspect refused to meet with police or to give them his location.
Three days after the incident, the suspect was arrested at his place of work. Police noted that he had fresh cuts on his right hand.
The suspect was booked at the Thurston County Jail for first-degree burglary and three counts of violating a no-contact order.
