THURSTON COUNTY –– Two fires broke out July 20 in the county, although no deaths or injuries were reported.

A fire broke out in a commercial building at 8:11 a.m. in the 6000 block of Buckthorn Court Northwest. According to an official from the McLane Black Lake Fire Department, a Pacific Disposal garbage truck began “smoldering” due to a possible association with “cigarette ashes in the back.” There were no injuries or deaths, and no complications arose from the situation in putting out the fire.

The second was called in around 12:53 p.m. as a residential structure fire, occurring in the 8300 block of 54th Court Southeast. According to Lacey Fire Battalion Chief Patrick Harn, it was a “bark fire” involving “smoldering bark” near a house. It did not lead to any injuries or deaths, and when the first engine arrived, others were called off.
