Dear Lexis,
It's been years since my last relationship. The relationships have never been serious either and I'm starting to wonder if I will ever find someone to spend my life with. I used to believe in soulmates, but right now I would just settle for someone to come home to. Do you think things will ever turn around for me?
Thanks,
Lonely in Lacey
Dear Lonely,
Three years ago, I was a bachelorette. I wondered if I just wasn’t destined to have a relationship. I wasn't particularly motivated to put myself out there but it still seemed like I was the freak who never dated.
I figured that I should just content myself with being alone. I was fairly happy with my life, and while I thought it would be nice to have a partner, I was okay with not having one.
I had one quasi-active online dating profile. That was it, that was all the energy I was putting into my romantic life. One day I liked a profile where I wasn't even sure if I was seeing the guy accurately, and that's where I met Angus.
Now we’re married, with a 10-month-old baby, and I look back in wonder. Things shifted so fast. A part of me never believed this day would come and looking at my daughter, a part of me feels like I'm living in a dream; that one day I'll wake up and find myself single again.
And while marriage has its challenges, it's amazing to see just how quickly your life can change course.
If all of this can happen to me with just one online profile, imagine how quickly it could happen for you. If you're more invested in finding that lasting relationship and are willing to put yourself out there, I believe that you will find the person you're looking for.
Don't try to force it. Enjoy the process. Trust that things will come when they are meant to. Trust that, when you look back, you will be equally amazed at how wonderfully different your life is and grateful for the experiences you got to have along the way.
Believe in yourself and your future. Things are always working out for you.
