Body found last month belonged to local 20-year-old homeless woman, police say

Police seeking clues for homicide investigation

Olympia police have identified the human remains that were found near Thurston County Joint Animal Services on March 31.

The remains were “positively identified” as belonging to Marea “Red” A. Hines the Olympia Police Department said on Twitter.

Hines, described as a 20-year-old mixed-race female with black hair and brown eyes, weighing 105 lbs. and 5’4” tall, is believed by authorities to be a homicide victim.

Police said Hines had been homeless for the past two years and frequented homeless encampments throughout Olympia. She was also believed to have occasionally traveled to Tacoma.
