Hispanic music, art, cuisine and more during Lula Fest

Posted

As part of its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Olympia will host its first-ever Lula Fest this coming Saturday, September 23, from 3 to 9 p.m., downtown on Washington Street.

This festival, which is presented by Ultimano Comms+, Olympia Downtown Alliance, and the City of Olympia, aims to highlight the colorful vibes of Hispanic/Latino Americans through the experience of the Hispanic culture and heritage through music, art and cuisine.

Lula Fest attendees should get to enjoy traditional Hispanic cuisine prepared by popular neighborhood restaurants Jerk An Tingz, Dos Hermanos and Halyards.

Get to listen to the catchy beats of Hispanic/Latin music by Argentina-born music producer Terror/Cactusa, a Seattle-based musician who plays a wide variety of Latin-American influences, including Argentine folk, Peruvian chicha, among others, interpreting them through hypnotic electric beats with the use of psychedelic guitar, dub lasers and field recordings, according to the event's producer, Ultimano Comms+.

Along with Anjali Silva, Pretty Funk Dub, and Malo Castro and Wepa, students from The Bridge Music Project will also perform musical selections.

Lula Fest participants get the opportunity to sample excellent beers in the beer garden for a refreshing outdoor treat, take in the custom automobiles on display at the car show, go on a shopping spree in the retail area, and learn more about other community organizations.
