Thurston County Public Health and Social Services (PHSS) will conduct a public hearing on Nov. 4 about the proposed relocation of recreational vehicles (RVs) from Ensign Road to 720 Carpenter Road, Olympia.

Neighboring property and business owners are encouraged to submit their comments for the virtual public informational meeting scheduled on Thu, Nov. 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. The county shared that the move would provide a safer, more stable space for vulnerable individuals.

The county explained in a press release that the proposed transfer is a temporary solution to the RVs parked along Ensign Road. The move will open up parking spaces meant for hospital and medical staff at Providence St. Peter Hospital.

The county confirmed that the City of Olympia will enforce its parking ordinance along Ensign Road once the RVs are removed. The county also assured that the proposed site would be managed 24 hours a day by Olympia Mutual Aid Partners (OlyMAP). In addition, OlyMAP will also provide access to services for those who will be moving into the area.

In the long-term, the county plans to purchase the property along Franz-Anderson Rd where they plan to build permanent supportive housing or build longer-safe parking space for the RVs.

Those interested in participating in the public hearing may submit their comments and questions at Meghan.porter@co.thurston.wa.us, join the discussion on Zoom or watch the live stream on the county’s Youtube Channel.
