What's happening coming up for the third week of October?

The second week of October gave us a lot of fun activities! Let us see what the third week has in store for us.

 Tumwater Marching Band Festival, October 14, from 8:30 a.m.

An annual competition for marching bands from all around the Pacific Northwest is held at the Tumwater Marching Band Festival. The event takes place at Tumwater Stadium on the second Saturday in October (on the grounds of Tumwater High school). It's been 15 years since they last held a tournament. Olympia Indie Music History Project Zoom Focus Group, October 14, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

The Olympia Heritage Commission has started a two-year initiative to investigate the origins of this identity by conserving the histories of Olympia's late 20th-century "Indie" independent music scene from the 1980s to the early 2000s and by documenting significant venues, concepts, and inspirations. Murd-arrr!!! Pirates of the Salty Dog, October 14, 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Tenino Young-at-Heart Theatre, the Olympia Elks Lodge, and the Rochester Citizens Group will present dinner theater for you all ye mateys to celebrate the month of Halloween! 27th Annual Conference by Centralia College, October 15, 7:45 p.m. - 12 p.m.

The event is composed of a conference and workshop. The conference is an outreach effort to encourage young ladies to enroll in STEAM courses. It is offered in accordance with Federal GEPA standards and is designed to be gender inclusive. It aims to increase young women's interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) through positive hands-on experiences; to foster awareness of the diversity of career opportunities for women in STEAM-related fields; and to provide an opportunity to meet female role models who are working In STEAM fields.  Clean Water Careers: Treatment Plant Tour, October 15, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Get a glimpse into the kind of work it takes to run a wastewater treatment plant. From Water Quality Analysts to Engineers to Educators, explore different career paths with activities highlighting their work and the skills they need. After a 1 pm presentation, take a tour of LOTT’s Budd Inlet Treatment Plant to see how wastewater is cleaned. Tour participants must be 10 or older and wear sturdy closed shoes.  Celebrating Seniors, October 15, from 5:30 p.m.

Join the Senior Services for South Sound on the evening of October 15, 2022, at the Olympia Senior Center for Celebrating Seniors, its annual fundraising gala! This glamorous night of festivities and food will support its mission to improve the quality of life for people as they age. The theme this year is the Golden Age of Hollywood. Walk the red carpet amidst the camera flash of the paparazzi as you enjoy music, drinks, and a fabulous dinner. It will have a selective auction of premium offerings and special guest star Eileen McKenzieSullivan will be honored for her longtime service as its former executive director.  St. Olaf Orchestra at Olympia High School, October 18, from 7:30 p.m.

St. Olaf Orchestra, TIME-acclaimed “one of the best college orchestras in the nation”, will perform at Olympia High School on October 18 at 7:30 p.m. as part of its national Washington and Oregon tour. There are seven orchestra members from the Western Washington area, including Ann Li (violin) and Ella Cereghino (viola) of Olympia, Tarkel Price (trombone) of Seattle, Owen Cromwell (violin) of Mukilteo, and Ariana Raduege (cello) of Bellingham.  Autumn Secondhand Safari Sale, October 21

This is a garage sale, swap meet, and craft vendors market all in one. Join the Thurston County Fair Foundation to shop or host your own booth! Indoor and outdoor spaces are available. Proceeds from booth applications will help fund Fair Foundation projects, restorations, and improvements, to the Thurston County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are visited by thousands of community members every year and are the home of the youth 4-H, FFA, and other development projects.
