Tumwater Police Department (TPD) and the Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) coordinated a stolen vehicle pursuit that led to the arrest of a suspect with multiple felony warrants.

TPD officers responded to assist TCSO in the early hours of April 25 at the Pilot Travel Center, where a deputy had identified a stolen white 1999 Ford F-150, reported stolen from Puyallup on March 24.

The vehicle fled north on I-5, prompting the deputy to follow at a distance.

The pursuit continued onto Tumwater Boulevard and Littlerock Road, where TPD deployed Stop Sticks near Complete Repair Services.

The stolen vehicle struck the Stop Sticks but continued, eventually crashing near the southbound I-5 onramp at Tumwater Boulevard.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot into a wooded area, which TPD officers with K9 unit James, and TCSO deputies searched.

After several announcements for the suspect to surrender, K9 James successfully located the suspect hiding in the brush.

The suspect tried to get away but K9 James held onto him.

As I approached the male, I saw him begin to try to push himself up and pull away from James at which time I placed my knee in the middle of his back to pin him down and prevent him from getting up in an attempt to fight with James,” the responding officer stated on the police report.

The suspect was arrested and treated for minor injuries by Thurston Fire Department medics due to the K9 bite.

After the suspect was cleared, he was then booked into the TCSO jail for second-degree theft.

The suspect was also found with multiple felony warrants.
